WHIRC is a partnership between the Nova Scotia Agricultural College (NSAC), Dalhousie University, and the IWK Health Centre devoted to studying the health of young rural women and the issues that surround healthy living in rural settings.

WHIRC hopes to:

  1. Study young women and their connection with:
  2. mental and emotional health
  3. rural safety, more specifically agricultural safety
  4. resilience and change in rural communities
  5. nutrition and dietary decision behaviour
  6. Encourage the involvement of young women in rural health research
  7. Develop strategies that promote the health of young rural women and their communities
  8. Influence government policy for positive health outcomes in rural communities
